Introduction
Nurses play a major and very important role in the new NHS. Within primary care, practice nurses are the backbone of chronic disease management such as heart disease, diabetes and asthma. They complement the role of the GP, working as part of the primary care team. District Nurses visit patients in their own homes, performing nursing duties such as dressing changes, injections, and phlebotomy (blood taking). They also run clinics in the surgery for similar duties. Health Visitors are specially trained nurses who deal with the two ends of the spectrum of human life - the very young and the very old. They run child health clinics, administer childhood immunisations, and are involved in screening the over 75's.
Practice Nurses
We currently employ two practice nurses, Elaine and Jenny. Elaine works on Tuesday and Jenny Thursday.
