Patients on regular repeat prescriptions may order them without having to see the doctor. The usual medicines that come within this category are blood pressure tablets, long-term heart pills, diabetic medication, arthritis medication and the like. There is a system within the computer database which flags up a reminder for the doctor as well as the patient to attend the doctor for a review, usually if you have not been seen for over 6 months. Please make an appointment for a medication review if there is a message on your prescription. Even if there is no message it is in your own interest to be reviewed regularly, so please try and see the doctor at least every 6 months.
Most repeat prescriptions have been for a 4-week supply in the past, but recently we have started to provide an 8-week supply in order to reduce workload and improve convenience. If you order your medicines too early the computer will tell us that you have ordered too early, so you may not receive your medicines. If you are going on holiday and need your medicines early please tell the staff.
There are several ways you may order you repeat prescriptions. Ordering by telephone is NOT one of them. Neither is ordering over the internet, yet.....
1. The preferred method is for you to come in to the reception with your repeat slip.
2. You may also just drop the slip in the box at reception, without having to wait for a receptionist.
3. You may post your repeat slip in to us with a SAE.
4. You can fax us your repeat prescription request. Fax no. is 01236 606345.
5. As a concession to our elderly patients without helpful relatives or neighbours you may also order them through your regular pharmacist.
REGARDLESS OF THE METHOD OF ORDER PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A 48-HOUR TURN AROUND TIME FOR YOUR ORDER.
Please note that it is up to the doctor to decide whether your medicine is put on computer repeat prescribing. If you have been put on a new medicine, either by the hospital or by the practice, it is normal to issue the prescription on a monthly one-off basis for perhaps 2-3 months before it is put on your computer repeat list. This is only common-sense as the new medicine may not entirely agree with you. Also there are some medicines which Dr Ooi may not put on computer repeat prescribing, such as some anti-depressants. For such medicines you may telephone to order them if you have agreed before-hand with Dr Ooi that you may get them without seeing him for a few months.
